Mickey Mouse

is a comic animal cartoon character who has become an icon for The Walt Disney Company. Mickey Mouse was created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks[1] and voiced by Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Company celebrates his birth as November 18, 1928 upon the release of Steamboat Willie.[2] The anthropomorphic mouse has evolved from being simply a character in animated cartoons and comic strips to become one of the most recognizable symbols in the world.

Mickey was created as a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, an earlier cartoon character created by the Disney studio for Charles Mintz of Universal Studios.
When Disney asked for a larger budget for his popular Oswald series, Mintz announced he had hired the bulk of Disney's staff, but that Disney could keep doing the Oswald series, as long as he agreed to a budget cut and went on the payroll. Mintz owned Oswald and thought he had Disney over a barrel. Angrily, Disney refused the deal and returned to produce the final Oswald cartoons he contractually owed Mintz. Disney was dismayed at the betrayal by his staff, but determined to restart from scratch. The new Disney Studio initially consisted of animator Ub Iwerks and a loyal apprentice artist, Les Clark. One lesson Disney learned from the experience was to thereafter always make sure that he owned all rights to the characters produced by his company.
In the spring of 1928, Disney asked Ub Iwerks to start drawing up new character ideas. Iwerks tried sketches of frogs, dogs and cats, but none of these appealed to Disney. A female cow and male horse were also rejected. They would later turn up as Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar.[3] Walt Disney got the inspiration for Mickey Mouse from his old pet mouse he used to have on his farm. In 1925, Hugh Harman drew some sketches of mice around a photograph of Walt Disney. These inspired Ub Iwerks to create a new mouse character for Disney called Mickey Mouse.[4]
"We felt that the public, and especially the children, like animals that are cute and little. I think we are rather indebted to Charlie Chaplin for the idea. We wanted something appealing, and we thought of a tiny bit of a mouse that would have something of the wistfulness of Chaplin — a little fellow trying to do the best he could."
"When people laugh at Mickey Mouse, it's because he's so human; and that is the secret of his popularity."[1]
"I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing — that it was all started by a mouse." — Walt Disney [5]
Mr. Disney originally named the character Mortimer Mouse, but his wife insisted that this was a poor name choice.[6][7] Actor Mickey Rooney has claimed that, during his Mickey McGuire days, he met cartoonist Walt Disney at the Warner Brothers studio, and that Disney was inspired to name Mickey Mouse after him[8].

Mickey Mouse Birthday Party Ideas

Mickey Mouse is a beloved character with millions of Disney fans, and since his creation decades ago, he has proven to be one of the most popular, and recognizable, cartoon characters of all time.

He is as popular today as he has ever been thanks to direct-to-DVD movies from Disney. As a result, it is very likely that you can expect your child to ask you for a Mickey Mouse themed birthday party at some point in their childhood. However, what can you do to provide that for them?

Well, thanks to some imagination and these party ideas, the process is made much, much easier.

Mickey Invitations

There are two ways you can go about Mickey Mouse invitations. You can either use the invitations that come with Mickey Mouse birthday party supplies, or you can create your own.

Using the computer, or your own drawing expertise, you can create invitations that invite the children to the party, with Mickey himself asking them to join him at the party. Ask the children to bring any Mickey Mouse dolls they may have, it will make a great piece of décor for the party.

Mickey's House

When the children arrive, they should be arriving in Mickey's house. This means you need to decorate the entire place in the colors of red, black and white, just like Mickey Mouse, as well as put up a great deal of decorations. Using some cardboard, you can create a mini Mickey Mouse wonderland for the children, complete with large cardboard cutouts that you made days before just for the party.

Mickey's Personal Message

Another wonderful thing to do is often the easiest. Simply make up a letter, put it on oversized paper and give it to your neighbor. Tell your neighbor to drop it through the mail slot at a specific time, and then after your neighbor leaves, let the children know that something is at the door. Make sure the letter looks 'Disney-ish' with extra sized font and lots of colors. Then you can read it to the children, in which they will find out that Mickey Mouse really wanted to be at the party but he was busy on another adventure with Goofy and Pluto and was unable to make it, so he sent this letter instead. Include a picture of Mickey Mouse that you can print off, and sign it, Mickey Mouse. It may not be real, but your child will love it nonetheless.

Mickey Mouse is a well-known figure that is very popular with children. As a result, you can really make it a birthday to remember through these party ideas.
